The reaction of N,N'-bis(salicylidene)ethane-1,2-diamine (H2salen) with Pb(ClO4)2·6H2O produced a novel complex [Pb3(salen)2][ClO4]2 in which the ligand bonds to the lead in two different modes. The interaction of N,N'-bis(3-methoxy-salicylidene)ethane-1,2-diamine with Pb(ClO4)2·6H2O yielded a mononuclear complex wherein the ligand bonds to the lead(II) atoms only through its phenolic oxygens.
