Technological contributions to innovation in manipulative processes and machines through research, invention and design

This submission describes the sustained, substantial and original technological contributions by Dr. R. Vitols over more than 30 years to innovation in manipulative processes and machines through research, invention and design. The application commences with some background information on the candidate and details of his education. This is followed by lists of grants and contracts (totalling well over £lm) on which Dr. Vitols has been the principal innovator and designer at Loughborough University of Technology. A list of his current research activities brings the situation up to date. The main part of the submission contains a chrorological commentary on the more important contributions to research and innovation by Dr.R.Vitols. 19 designs of machines for fulfilling market needs, which resulted from his industrial activities, between 1956 and 1968, have been highlighted. The exploitation of these machines within the textile and packaging industries has been protected by 11 published patents and 5 applications for patents. Copies are included of the published patents along with photographs of 10 machines.
