The dialogue between Marxism and imperialism began with Marx's limited discussion of the topic in relation to colonialism. Thisdeveloped through subsequent classical Marxist theorists after Marx's death up to World War I, and then in the work of modern theorists in the globalized world of today. Marxism recognizes that the nature of imperialism varies in its different forms and theorizes its relationship to capitalist development.
