chapter
posted on 2024-02-16, 15:15 authored by Paul DownwardPaul Downward

This commentary explores the challenges and opportunities of using mixed methods research in sports research. It provides a brief overview of quantitative and qualitative methods. This is followed by a reflection on some key philosophical differences that can be identified between their use in different paradigms of thought. The discussion proceeds to present and contrast a philosophically grounded and pragmatic basis for MMR. The commentary concludes by reflecting on some of the practical constraints and opportunities that apply to using and disseminating MMR research designs through publication in sports literature.
