This short paper addresses the issue of ‘governance’ in urban regions. Following a brief introduction outlining the key features in the re-emergence of city-regions, it highlights why ‘good governance’ is such an important asset for a city-region. This is followed by a presentation of some of the various cityregional models currently being adopted throughout the world. Finally the paper explores some of the tensions, conflicts and challenges which exist in the governance of city-regions.
