The paper describes the non-linear sonar developed at LUT. It is patterned after the REBECCA programme, a computer software that is capable of defining the parameters of remotely operated devices for characterization of the seabed and the sub-bottom structures. Acoustic parameter estimation such as forward/backward scattering can be made by remote sensing using acoustical techniques. The non-linear sonar described in the paper was designed to provide for lower frequency measurements and greater penetration capability in the remote acoustic sensing of the seabed.
