Engineering of Sport 15 - Proceedings from the 15th International Conference on the Engineering of Sport (ISEA 2024)

Synthetic turf has become a popular sports surface for various sports activities. On the other hand, sports injuries, e.g., Jones fracture (5th metatarsal fracture), are often reported to be associated with synthetic turf, especially in football players. For player safety, FIFA regulates the shock attenuation properties of surfaces, but the regulation only treats vertical shock attenuation, although sports activities always include horizontal impacts. In this study, we developed an independent type two-dimensional impact test device that can be used for the installed field tests.
