Engineering of Sport 15 - Proceedings from the 15th International Conference on the Engineering of Sport (ISEA 2024)

Alpinism is becoming increasingly popular and has developed from a pure sport into a form of tourism. However, alpinism is not without its risks, with frostbite being a common danger. Studies have shown that over 70% of mountaineers suffer frostbite, emphasizing the need for protective measures. In an earlier test campaign, in vivo tests were conducted in a climate chamber with 10 elite athletes to simulate the demanding conditions of mountaineering. The data obtained from the in vivo tests were then used as boundary conditions for the subsequent Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation.
