Engineering of Sport 15 - Proceedings from the 15th International Conference on the Engineering of Sport (ISEA 2024)

In baseball pitching, altering spin rate and the spin axis of the ball is effective in getting batters out. The point of application of the force contributes not only to the spin rate but also to the determination of the spin axis during pitching, which is essential information for understanding the mechanism of ball spin. Information on the point of application of force acting on the ball during baseball pitching is very useful for clarifying the ball spin mechanism and for acquiring new pitch types for pitchers. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to develop the method for estimating the point of application of force by only a baseball with an embedded sensor, and examine the reliability.
