This paper is based on evaluative work undertaken by the University of Reading on the Six Counties Technology Project, a Manpower Services Commission funded 'Joint Support Activity'. Data was obtained through interviews with key personnel involved with the project in the thirteen participating schools and colleges and through an analysis of project documents. The following themes, identified through the project as being of particularsignificance, are outlined: developing a coherent approach to technology education; the management of technology education; curriculum audits in the development of technology; equality of opportunity in technology education; promoting active learning; the transference of skills; promoting technology through links with industry; the assessment of technological achievement.
