The Sustainable Sanitation Alliance (SuSanA) was established in 2007 as a collaboration of different sanitation actors working towards the goals of the year of sanitation (2008). Since then it has developed into a well-recognised knowledge management platform services the sector as a whole. The platform has continued to grow since inception and in 2017 undertook a study to understand the knowledge management and capacity development needs and preferences of the community it serves. This paper outlines the results of this study and how the platform is using the analysis to further develop the range of services provided to its members. The results of the study have led to the development of key ‘personas’ that will be utilised to better hone the platform to meet the needs of targeted user groups.
