The dividing line between industrial and engineering design has become increasingly diffuse, both in education and in practice. This presentation examines the rationale and content of the University's BSc Honours course in Engineering Product Design, a new course which crosses the two disciplines. As a parallel, case studies from personal experience are presented which illustrate successful approaches to cross-disciplinary design in both fields. An accompanying poster presentation of work from the first year of the course and other appropriate material is offered.
