One of the most interesting and important exhibitions of contemporary art ever held in Loughborough – the curator has assembled a fascinating and diverse selection of contemporary drawings to answer the question, What is a drawing? Works by Takako Saito, Simon Patterson, Richard Deacon, Elizabeth Price, Janette Parris, Jacqueline Donachie, Eileen Cooper, Nigel Hall, Michael Landy, Lala Meredith-Vula, Stuart Taylor, Vincent Rattray, Jonathan Meuli, Nick Aikman, John Atkin, Michael Shaw, Craig Richardson, Soheila Sokhanvari, Sasha Bowles, Amikam Toren. An essay by Phillip Lindley contextualises these works historically, offers an overview of the nature of drawing in the 21st century and raises provocative questions.

Notes
Drawing Together is an exhibition of drawings created in the last fifty years. They have been produced by some of the most important and innovative artists working today, including two winners of the Turner Prize, Richard Deacon (1987) and Elizabeth Price (2012), each of whom has created a work specifically for this show. Eileen Cooper, the first female Keeper of the Royal Academy Schools, has contributed a major work, and two other Royal Academicians – Nigel Hall and Michael Landy – are each responsible for two impressive drawings. Many other eminent artists, including Jacqueline Donachie, Lala Meredith-Vula, Janette Parris, Simon Patterson, Soheila Sokhanvari and Amikam Toren, are also represented by important pieces in a show which explores contemporary definitions of drawing through the lenses of Conceptualism, Abstraction and Figuration. Several of our own distinguished practitioners have also generously lent works to the show.
