This is the introduction to volume 34, issue 2 of the journal Litera: Journal of Language, Literature and Culture Studies. The papers contained within this volume were initially presented at a Theatre and Drama Network (TDN) conference exploring Adaptation, Appropriation, and Translation, in 2023. The aims of that conference were to explore the complex relationship between adaptations and their original source material, to examine the ethics of adaptation, and to re-evaluate the meaning of adaptation within contemporary theatre, film, literature, and media studies.
