Aminomaleimide fluorophores: a simple functional group with bright, solvent dependent emission

Emission is responsive to the maleimide's environment with both a red-shift, and quenching, observed in protic polar solvents. Aminomaleimides are easily functionalised, providing a versatile fluorescent probe.</p>
