Improving students’ understanding of structural analysis within a limited
time represents a challenge for both students and lecturers. As a result, emphasis is usually
placed on either the analytical or conceptual aspect of the subject. This paper argues that,
within the same time frame, the simultaneous development of both aspects could lead to a
better understanding of the subject. The development and implementation of a computer
program suitable for this purpose is described, and its application to the compatibility method is illustrated.
