In June 2023 the Concussion in Sport Group (CISG) published their sixth and much anticipated Consensus Statement (CS). The CISG was established in 2000 and is particularly influential because it is backed and funded by organisations including the International Olympic and Paralympic Committees, the international federations for football and ice-hockey and World Rugby. In the run up to the Covid-delayed sixth CS, critics of the CISG specifically wanted to see the inclusion of a statement saying that Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) (or Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy Neuropathological Change (CTE-NC)) was caused by the concussions and sub-concussive head impacts routinely incurred in many combat and contact sports.
