This paper reveals new tendencies in modern geopolitics. In 1973 Josue' De Castro published his seminal work "Geographie de la faime', with the revised title "Geopolitique de la faime'. It was the first time the term was used to highlight the fact that something more than geography alone was needed to explain famines. The French and English approaches to geopolitics are studied in detail. In the last paragrah the new concept of "critical geopolitics' is analysed. -P.Iannone
