The characteristics of hydrogen generation from concentrated sodium borohydride (NaBH4) solutions were studied in this paper because of its potential application in hydrogen storage. The hydrolysis was conducted over a carbon-supported ruthenium catalyst, and the hydrogen generated was measured using a computer-monitored water replacement method. The effects of the hydrolysis temperature, NaOH concentration, NaBH4 concentration, and the byproduct, sodium metaborate, on hydrogen generation behavior have been investigated. An empirical model was proposed to represent the hydrogen-generation rate.
