The directionality of the equals sign
It is often observed that students prefer to read or write an equation in the form 2 + 5 = 7, with the operation on the left side and the ‘result’ on the right, rather than in the form 7 = 2 + 5, where the operation takes place on the right side and the ‘result’ is on the left.
