...6767... Draw Bridge: Sketch Study of Tony Blair

media
posted on 2014-12-05, 10:01 authored by Alastair C. Adams
The work provided for the exhibition focuses on two recent subjects and aims to explore drawing practice, gesture and markmaking in an attempt to challenge the viewer. This drawing of Tony Blair was produced as part of a series of works resulting from a commission from the National Portrait Gallery in the UK. I have tried to minimize the drawing to see how it can be possible to convey the maximum engagement and expression with a relatively economical sketch. The drawing is large in scale in order to allow the viewer to see the surface of the work and its mark making qualities.

Notes

The sketch of Tony Blair by Alastair Adams was published in the catalogue documenting the ...6767...Drawbridge exhibition, which took place in Singapore 11 April - 20 May 2014. This was a joint exhibition between staff from Nan Yang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore, and staff from School of the Arts, Loughborough University. 6767 is the distance in miles between the 2 institutions and drawing was seen as the medium to draw the 2 institutions together and bridge the distance. The exhibition exhibited a range of processes, mediums, materials and practice through the application of drawing.
