Inspired by Iohanna Nicenboim‘s posthuman stories I resurrected some work from 2022 where I observed and thought about a sofa floating around in a canal near my home.
Whilst objects in canals are nothing new, few float around and I do not think I have ever seen a sofa. There was something charming about it moving around the canal and having other non-humans sit on it. I was so engaged that I was a little sad when it was finally hooked by someone and removed.
I experimented in this short piece using the second person, resulting in a conversation between the sofa and you the reader. This included projecting or telling you the emotions you are having, which is an interesting tension.
