Des pratiques d’hygiene inappropriees, l’absence d’assainissement adequat, et un approvisionnement en eau non potable ou limite en quantite peuvent contribuer a la propagation de maladies evitables telles que le cholera et la typhoide. La comprehension du mode de transmission des pathogenes (organismes qui causent les maladies) permet aux ingenieurs et professionnels de la sante publique d’intervenir de maniere appropriee afin d’interrompre le cycle de transmission, de sauver des vies et de reduire les souffrances inutiles.
