Soil is a natural material forming a fundamental component of nearly all infrastructure work. For many years, engineers and scientists have worked to develop procedures for measuring its properties and predicting its reactions. However, its infinite variability makes it difficult to categorise or predict. This guide provides a brief overview of the material and its properties, in particular as they impact on small water systems. Note that any predictions you make must always be viewed with care.
