Environmental deterioration due to atmospheric CO2 from the over-use of petroleum has triggered the development of several novel technologies for CO2 removal. MES is one such technology that uses electroactive microorganisms as biocatalysts for bio-electrochemical conversion of CO2 to VACC. However, MES is yet to be applicable in industrial sites as this technology needs to be improved in terms of yield and rate production of VACC. Enrichment of microbial communities to be used as biocatalysts in MES is considered to be a method to deal with this issue.
