•ANAMMOX (ANaerobic AMMonium Oxidation) bacteria are a  genetically diverse group of organisms responsible for fixed nitrogen removal in anaerobic environments.

•Employed in wastewater treatment but are slow growing  (3-7 days doubling time).

•Improving growth rates is key to widespread adoption.

•Genome scale metabolic modelling reveals rate limiting processes and insights into amelioration of these processes.
