Improving sanitation is more than building toilets. The sanitation chain comprises of collection, treatment, and disposal or reuse of accumulated human excreta and wastewater. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) indicator 6.2.1 calls for safely managed sanitation systems that protect health at all stages of the sanitation chain. With the WHO 2016 guidelines for safe use and disposal of waste water, grey water and excreta, this study was commissioned.
