“Rising Items”: An app to find items gaining popularity in Loughborough University’s Research Repository

Looking at the top downloaded or viewed items from an institutional repository is usually straightforward. While interesting, it reflects what was popular, not necessarily what is or what will be of interest in the future. To answer the question of which items are rising in popularity, the Open Research Team at Loughborough University Library built a web-based tool which uses IRUS-UK data. Users can narrow the scope by item type, by the total number of downloads over the three-month window, and by the rate of month-to-month increase. Additionally, users can explore which items have been gaining interest by country. This tool provides valuable insights to the Open Research Team as well as colleagues in Marketing.

This lightning presentation was presented at the LIS-Bibliometrics Conference, Leicester, 26 November 2025.

© the author
