The Institute of Digital Engineering (IDE), Loughborough University, University of Bath and the University of Warwick launched the digital twin initiative funded by the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK (APC) to develop a definition that can be applied to multiple sectors and which incorporates the unique requirements of the automotive and mobility sectors, derived from engagement with academia and industry.

This digital twin initiative culminates in the form of this white paper. In it we present: a digital twin definition, an overview of the current state-of-the-art in digital twins, several case studies to demonstrate the art of the possible, and critical considerations to define value for money metrics for digital twins.
