A study of chromised coatings on 11% Cr steel

The present research programme commenced with a detailed review of literature and included a consideration of the development of the chromising process, diffusion theory, kinetic, thermodynamic and structural studies of coatings; it indicates that there is a substantial history of work in the general field. Modem development work and associated reporting on the chromising of Fe–Cr based alloys has, however, been extremely limited. As such, characterisation of chromium diffusion coatings produced on a commercial Fe–11% Cr alloy has been carried out, along with investigation of the interdiffusion characteristics of the chromium diffusion coating and core in the absence of oxygen at temperatures between 1073K and 1273K.
