Over the last few decades, numerous researchers have investigated the design, construction and performance of building construction projects. Few studies, however, have investigated the performance of the engineering construction (EC) sector, and even fewer, specifically within the Middle East region. Previous studies (i.e. Haas and Fagerlund, 2002; Bondi et al., 2016) have concluded that a lack of modularisation awareness is among the key factors attributed to the construction inefficiency of projects. Although the benefits of modularisation have been examined previously, mainly in the building sector, the decision regarding the drivers of the degree of modularisation have rarely been investigated. Therefore, the aim of this research is to investigate the decision support strategies in the engineering construction sector to determine the best degree of modularisation.
