High quality manual butt fusion joints using low cost pipe alignment technology

Butt fusion techniques have been used for polyethylene pipe jointing in the UK since the 1970‟s. Today in the UK butt fusion operations are conducted using fully automatic butt fusion machines minimising potential human error. In Developing Countries such as Nepal and Timor Leste (formerly known as East Timor) manual butt fusion techniques have been developed and are used as a cost effective alternative to mechanical and electro fusion jointing. Despite their use in Developing Countries, no extensive testing has been undertaken to determine the strength of these manual butt fusion joints.....
