Recent progress in the area of thermosetting materials,
namely, the development of injection moulding compounds, has
expanded their use and thus their production and processing.
Unfortunately, several problems exist during the manufacture of
phenolic based thermosetting compounds and also during the life
of the saleable article. These problems begin at the moulding
stage, where it is noticeable that the useful life of the mould
is shortened due to the abrasive action of the compound, through
to the utilization of the finished article, where after prolonged
usage breakage may occur.
The objectives of this research programme have been to
further the understanding of the mechanism of mould wear and
propose ideas on the morphology of phenol formaldehyde mouldings. [Continues.]
