This report initially sets out to establish a sound rationale for some
small-scale action research and begins by discussing some of the
educational arguments for developing a technological capability in school
children. However, the work is not argued to be solely a crusade
for better designers or engineers as its involvement in making technical
judgments through cross-curricular, design-related activity is regarded
to have a general relevance in the education of all children. [Continues.]
