Multicomponent polydiene-epichlorohydrin elastomeric systems

The polymerization of epichlorohydrin (ECH) to a crystalline elastomer has been shown to proceed relatively unhindered when performed in the presence of diene and some other elastomers. Gross products obtained by this type of in situ polymerization were compared with blends prepared from the respective homopolymers to detect any improved compatibility, processability and covulcanization behaviour. Natural rubber/poly (ECH) systems have been investigated in greater detail. It was also found necessary to investigate the crystallinity and vulcanization behaviour of ECH homopolymers both crystalline and amorphous. [Continues.]
