Chemiluminescence and fluorescence immunoassays are increasingly being employed in analytical sciences in order to circumvent problems associated with radioimmunoassays. Fluorescence immunoassays in practice suffer from background interferences, and have inferior limits of detection. Chemical excitation of conventional fluorescent labels via peroxyoxalate offers an attractive approach for improving the detection limits of fluorescence immunoassays. [Continues.]
