This study is an examination of private new settlements in England and Wales,
concentrating on the period from 1980 to March 1992. It is set within the context of the
significant changes in the relationship between the state, particularly the land use
planning system, and the private sector, which took place during this period of
Conservative Government, and of major social and economic restructuring. [Continues.]
