Progression in traffic safety over the past 30 years: contributions to traffic crash casualty reduction
This thesis describes the author’s contributions to the UK and international traffic safety research agenda sustained over the past 34 years and it uses Figure 1 above as a framework which underpins these contributions. Some 211 publications are relevant to this research. These include journal papers, journal-equivalent papers, refereed conference papers, book chapters and published reports. It was considered necessary to include all publication types, since they have relevance to the research programme conducted by the author. Published reports are of special interest because of the applied nature of the research and therefore, individual report findings relate to research commissioned by various stakeholders of the road transport system to address specific and focused traffic safety research needs.
