Fluorophosphoranes are reviewed with special emphasis on compounds substituted by heteroatom-containing organic groups. Interaction of Lewis acid fluorophosphoranes with Si–M-bonded Lewis bases (where M = O, S, N) have been shown to result in fission of the Si–M bond with subsequent formation of a Si–F-bonded species on all the cases investigated. The phosphorus-containing products of such reactions are generally heteroatom-substituted fluorophosphoranes. [Continues.]
