Several substituted phenylene- and biphenylenemercurials
have been prepared and their degree of
polymerization checked using mass spectrometry: in all
cases only the trimeric species were obtained. The
chemistry of some of these organomercurials was thoroughly
investigated and also a complete X-ray structural analysis
of the orthorhombic form of biphenylenemercury carried out. [Continues.]
