This thesis is a study of the design of parallel algorithms for low-level digital image processing on Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) processor arrays which are implemented on both a Sequent Balance (MIMD) via an Occam simulator and a transputer network running the Transputer Development System (TDS). The Occam programming language is used as a tool to simulate and map systolic arrays for the image processing algorithms proposed. [Continues.]
