This thesis presents an historical analysis of the development of higher education at Loughborough during the important period between Herbert Schofield's retirement and the granting of university status to Loughborough College of Technology. Since major changes occurred in government policy for higher education between 1951 and 1966, local factors are related to the national context. [Continues.]
