The kinetics and mechanism of the oxidation of proposed
vanadium (IV) species at conditions prevalent in the Stretford desulphurisation
process have been investigated in this study. The British Gas Stretford Process
employs vanadate to oxidise hydrogen sulphide to elemental sulphur, and the vanadium (IV)
formed by the process is reoxidised to vanadium (V) by air oxidation in the
presence of a catalyst. [Continues.]
