Water shortages, rising water bills and hosepipe ban have made it costly for households
to irrigate their gardens in the UK. In this dissertation, household grey water is utilized to
irrigate gardens, and the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of grey water
will be analyzed. Domestic grey water technology includes grey water collection
technology, grey water filtration treatment technology and irrigation technology. Three
household grey water reuse systems were designed. The typical garden size is
identified in the UK. The amount of water used for domestic irrigation is calculated. The
cost and return expectation of using grey water system is also calculated. Explore
knowledge of grey water reuse in the UK and the standards set for the use of grey water
in other developed countries. The risks of using backwater and how to reduce them
were assessed. Exploring attitudes of British residents towards grey water reuse. This
