The reuse of grey water for domestic garden irrigation in UK

Water shortages, rising water bills and hosepipe ban have made it costly for households to irrigate their gardens in the UK. In this dissertation, household grey water is utilized to irrigate gardens, and the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of grey water will be analyzed. Domestic grey water technology includes grey water collection technology, grey water filtration treatment technology and irrigation technology. Three household grey water reuse systems were designed. The typical garden size is identified in the UK. The amount of water used for domestic irrigation is calculated. The cost and return expectation of using grey water system is also calculated. Explore knowledge of grey water reuse in the UK and the standards set for the use of grey water in other developed countries. The risks of using backwater and how to reduce them were assessed. Exploring attitudes of British residents towards grey water reuse. This dissertation finds that there are many challenges for the UK to adopt domestic grey water recycling system
